Overview — AI Product Semantic Specification (AIPROD)

The AI Product Semantic Specification (AIPROD) defines the semantics and descriptive elements of an AI Product.
Whereas AIPDS explains how an AI Product is deployed, *AIPROD explains what an AI Product is.


Purpose of AIPROD

AIPROD provides a structured way to describe the identity, purpose, characteristics, and governance attributes of an AI Product.
It ensures that every AI Product can be:

  • Self-describable → with rich metadata and semantic definitions.
  • Discoverable → via catalogs and marketplaces.
  • Governed → aligned with risk classifications, policies, and prohibited uses.
  • Comparable → enabling evaluation across AI Products.
  • Composable → semantically interoperable with other AI Products or Data Products.

Scope of AIPROD

AIPROD covers the semantic backbone of an AI Product, including:


Relationship to BPS and AIPDS

  • BPS → Defines the base product principles applicable to all product types.
  • AIPROD → Extends BPS to define the semantic characteristics of AI Products.
  • AIPDS → Extends BPS to define the deployment characteristics of AI Products.

Together, AIPROD and AIPDS provide a complete specification of AI Products — from definition to deployment.


Principles of AIPROD

  1. Self-Description → An AI Product must describe itself in machine- and human-readable formats.
  2. Discoverability → Semantics must power trustworthy search and cataloging.
  3. Governance by Design → Identity, ownership, policies, and prohibited uses must be explicit.
  4. Interoperability → AI Products must declare standards to enable ecosystem integration.
  5. Evolution → Semantic description must evolve with product versions and retraining.
